Summary:
This book tells the extraordinary story of America through the lens of African American history. With this book, any reader of this book has the chance to appreciate how American History happened through, perhaps, a different perspective. This is the story of the men, women, and children who toiled in the hot sun picking cotton for their masters; it’s about the America ripped in two by Jim Crow laws The detailed paintings include portraits of individuals and groups contrasted against wondrous skies. With this historical work of art, this book would be very easy to use in your classroom. Reading this book to your class and then have the students write an assignment on history would be ideal. They could also write a version of a historic event through either their eyes or the eyes of another historical figure. In conclusion, this book was great to read and the illustrations were fantastic.
